More ornaments
Apr. 16th, 2018 10:28 pmHi friends, I have wanted to post for some time, but I don't get to sit down at the computer much. The weather has been so blah here and exhausting, plus I'm prepping for a comic expo at the end of the month. I felt emboldened by my bird decorations and prototyped some unicorn ones. I was really surprised by how much work it took from sketch to finished product - now only did I have to choose the paper, but I had to figure out the right way to size everything to fit on a letter sized sheet. I thought I worked out all the kinks on the first try, but I didn't. Pics under the cut.
The first prototype, where I used blue Stardream cardstock for the background and hand cut the unicorns out. I wasn't sure my Pazzles could accurately cut that detail at that size.

Once I was confident that my Pazzles could cut, I made a whole lot of bodies. I cut all the manes and tails from vellum. I thought this would make them look ~~ magical ~~.

Unfortunately, this resulted in a lack of contrast! I tried Wink of Stella pens, markers, etc...anything to get that oomph factor. I was so close and everything I worked on was kind of a dud. I also didn't like the way that the rainbow sat on top of the cardstock with a little bump where the gold thread was.

I went back to my Pazzles and welded the shapes into a single shape and cut again. This time I also ran the rainbows through my Xyron and stuck it down to a sheet of cardstock. This way, I only had to cut once and spend less time guessing about how to align the middle circle die. I bought pink and silver Stardream for the back. I'm happy with this version! If you would like a "dud" unicorn, let me know. I made quite a few that I don't feel are saleable.
