The picture is lovely and also quite large. It's 1,739px by 2,369px; that's a lot. Dreamwidth image hosting offers a thumbnail option that you might want to look into: it makes it possible to show a smaller version of the picture in a posting, and people can click through to the full version.
I'm not saying this to pick on you, honestly; I hope you find it useful. And I'm glad that this community is seeing more activity again, so thanks for posting!
Thank you!! I sell stuff at craft fairs, and have one in a few weeks where I'll sell these for the first time. Thinking maybe $15? The materials are cheap, but a pair takes about 1.5 hours to make.
Excellent! They're really pretty. :) I would charge more. Your time is worth more than $10/hr (and it's probably less than that if you figure in cost of materials ). I'm struggling with what to charge for woven goods right now - there are so many people on etsy that charge way too little, which kind of sets a precedent. (Just my two cents!)
You're right! Pricing is really hard. You have to think about how much you're getting per hour, the context in which you're selling, the market in which you're selling... I haven't tried craft shows yet. Maybe next year?
I weave mostly dishtowels right now, but will be adding napkins to my repertoire very soon - I've had two requests, one is a commission (with an open deadline). I've done bathmats (there was a sale on 3/2 cotton, how could I resist?) too. I'm hoping to weave some wool shawls for the fall/winter. Done a few samples and feel like I could get something worthwhile fairly soon. Of course, I won't make any sales until I actually get off my butt and decide on a business/domain name and start listing things!
Ah! I have a fondness for macrame - I can remember my mother making *so many* planters when I was small. :)
Craft fairs are interesting experiments. The most my SIL and I have paid is $75 a table, and often much less. Sometimes we get nothing, other times several hundred, and it's mostly mysterious why we do better one day vs. another. Was it because we offered different things, different prices, or presented different ways? On thing is clesr - October to December is much better than any other time.
