With the new influx of people, I'm hoping people might want to talk about craft things. If you've been crafty lately, or thought about it, or wanted to craft, or anything else, then please tell us here! Pictures, progress, planning and questions are all good.

Here are some things I've been making:







All from a delightful crafternoon I went to recently, and I trust that my mother-in-law will enjoy the candle holders (or, at least, tell me that she likes them). The larger one was supposed to be a planter, it didn't go to plan so I actually made a very heavy fruit bowl.

I still haven't figured out how to make the balloon ones, like this:



My current thinking, after three or four failed attempts, is that I should have gone with my gut instinct and used the quick set concrete. Anyone here done anything with concrete? Any suggestions on how to flatten the surface with such small objects?

Wow these are super awesome. O.O The balloon ones look pretty cool but I really like what you've done already. A++ would drool over again. Maybe use some sort of pastry knife or something? Sculpt it like super thick fondant? Or some pottery tool, perhaps.

A pastry knife is a great idea, and (since I don't currently have such a thing) a quick google tells me you can get little tiny ones for cake decorating, which would be perfect. Excellent, thank you!

These were super easy to make in recycled plastic sprayed with silicone spray, if you wanted to make your own. The silicone makes them pop right out.

They're quite something. I am in love with the fruit bowl.
I think the balloon ones are cool too. Worth the effort of trying to get them right.
What created the colours?

I just painted them, which will, I hope, prove durable enough. I was going to put a layer of polyurethane over the top, but I decided to see if they could stand the stress of holding tiny candles without that extra later.

These are what I've been working on. The brightly colored one on top, there, isn't done yet. But the bottom sandy/blue one is done. Boo-yah.

I love them both! The sandy/blue one looks so comfortable and relaxing, and I love the two lines of border you've given it. I really like the tiny circles in between the big squares on the bright one. It makes the gaps more interesting and (I guess) textural too.

I have been knitting and crocheting doll clothes for my daughter's Barbie dolls, even though she's still too young to play with them. I wanted to get a head start on them so her dolls have a nice wardrobe next year. I also wanted to destash all of the old crochet cotton and the leftover sock yarn. I haven't taken any pictures yet because I still need to buy tiny snaps, so only one dress that doesn't need snaps is done.

That is such an awesome idea! I know my daughter had a baby that was naked for an awfully long time because it was not a standard size, and I wish I'd gotten a head start on making clothes for it (even though I hate making tiny things! I admire your patience). Good luck with the snaps, and I hope you'll post some pics to the comm when they're done.

Some stuff I am making

I try hard to make All The Things, but of course, time and money are restrictions. Currently, I'm processing four fleeces I got on the cheap in February. The plan is to comb and spin them and then weave something (shawl?) with the resulting yarn.
I'm also knitting socks, a cardigan (which is still only 3" of ribbing - sigh!), sort of maybe about to start measuring cotton yarn for a batch of napkins and then more dishtowels, juuuuust about to order the tools for spoon carving, making dizzes out of clam shells, aaaand later this year, I'll be sewing up a couple of shirts for myself.

I am relatively new to Dreamwidth, having come from LiveJournal, and have no idea how to post pictures here. Hopefully, this works:

Awesome! Spinning and weaving are both things I've never tried, but I find the process fascinating. It all looks wonderful
