untonuggan: A black-and-white photo of a Victorian woman (victorian lady)

If you were going to use some sort of paint and sealer on metal bottle caps that wouldn't chip, which paint would you use? I was thinking both a base coat and some sort of decoration (nothing too complicated). I know they make certain paints just for metals, which I've seen in hardware stores and the like. I thought spray paint might work for the base coat, but I wasn't sure about something I could spread with a brush for detail work. Does anyone have any particular recommendations/suggestions?

Thanks in advance, dreamwidth hive mind!

I'd probably try using Humbrol enamel paints, but I don't know how well they'd stand up to use.

I've not heard of Rustoleum; I know Humbrol (the brush-on sort) comes in teeny little tins for just over £1 each, so it'd not be too expensive or wasteful to test it.

The painter says: I'd use a base coat / primer and then an enamel type paint, suitable for outdoors use. My preference would be to use synthetic (not acrylic) paint.

In any case, make sure that the primer and final coat are either both acrylic or both synthetic.
You could probably get the primer in a spray can, but definitely read the fine print to be absolutely sure about this.

I'm not sure what the Humbrol enamels are based on but if they are synthetic, then I'd consider them a good option.

That would depend on which products you'd be getting, since they have quite a range.

True, true.
I sometimes forget that others may not have dozens of half-used cans of paint standing around, like I do. ;-)
