moem: Cat tipping a paint can (kladderkatje)

That sounds a bit odd, because it is, but here we are.
My partner and I bought a trailer tent, a 1994 CombiCamp from Denmark, and it looks pretty sweet. But the original beige-and-maroon color scheme had faded to... well, beige-and-beige. So I found a spray paint that's meant for fabric, and got a LOT of masking tape and other supplies, and now I'm almost done bringing it close to its original cheerful looking state.

This is how it should look once I'm done

The paint I'm using is an outdoor one, made by SimplySpray. It's a bit finicky because it really likes to drip and to splutter instead of spraying evenly. I've found that I get decent results if I just spray it reasonably evenly, not aiming for perfect coverage, and then use a brush to cover everything. It does in itself seem to cover well.
You really need to be meticulous about masking, and take gravity into account; if the paint can dribble off and get behind the masking material somewhere, then it will. I mixed a normal artists' acrylic in the shade of the beige parts, and I'm using that to cover up the little oopsies and places where the paint managed to bleed through. It works quite well. I figure that on an almost 30 years old tent, there are some stains no matter what, and anything that can't be detected from two meters away doesn't count.

It's a fun project, I'm almost done and with any luck, we can get a few nights of camping in before the weather gets too bad. In any case we'll be ready for next summer!

It looks great! Thank goodness you could look past the beige and beige and give it a new life :-)
