Another fun little project

A couple of years ago, I made a life-size cutout of Chriet Titulaer for our hackerspace's yearly Open Door Day, as a fun object that people could have their picture taken with. It was a success, people loved it.
The body was made after a picture of one of my fellow hackerspace participants, who was so kind to put on a suit and model; the face was traced and drawn in pencil from a copy-right protected photograph. The thing looked like this:



So that was already pretty neat. Then I found this instructable.

So yesterday, I gave our Chriet some 'moving' eyes. They don't really move, it's an optical trick... it's similar to how the moon seems to follow you behind the trees, because the moon is further away from you than the trees are. The irises were painted on the inside of two halved ping pong balls, which were then lit from behind (because otherwise they'd look too dark).

Of course this is very hard to photograph because there is light falling through the eyes but also on the face, and the face is also backlit. But it looks a bit like this, when you look from the left:

In other words, I had way too much fun with this. The effect is a bit creepy. I don't mind that.
